Enrolling mid-year

Families wishing to enroll their child after the start of school should contact Parent Coordinator Kristen Druda at kdruda@schools.nyc.gov. Seat offers will be based on availability and enrollment priorities.

Enrolling for September 2024

There is a school application for grades 1-5. Families inquire directly to the school. Those who wish to enroll their child in these grades can complete the application form online here or can visit the school and request assistance with completing the online application; this is so we have your contact information. We will make offers based on seat availability and first-come, first-serve basis.  

Enrollment priorities, all grades

PS 59 is a non-zoned school, and families who live in the five boroughs can apply to the school.  All siblings and Pre-K families will receive priority during the admissions process for our school, then families living in Staten Island. For grades 1st through 5th, the selection process is first come, first serve, and availability of a seat in the grade desired. Here is the new zone map. The easiest and most accurate way to see which elementary school is your zoned school is by using the School Search tool on the DOE website.

Kindergarten (and Kindergarten Gifted & Talented) Admissions

• Tuesday, December 5, 2023: Kindergarten Application Opens 
• Friday, January 19, 2024: Kindergarten Application Closes 
• Wednesday, March 27, 2024: Kindergarten Offer Release

Most families apply using the MySchools online system. You can also apply by phone, call 718-935-2009.

Enrollment priorities

In NYC, priority for seat offers is given to zoned children who have a brother or sister already enrolled at our school.

PS 59 is not a zoned school.  Here is the current zone map. The easiest and most accurate way to see which elementary school is your zoned school is by using the School Search tool at the DOE website.

Seat offers and wait lists

In the spring, the Office of Enrollment will send seat offers to families who applied by the deadline. Families with seat offers to PS 59 will be invited to register by appointment at the school.

Your child will automatically be placed on the wait lists of any schools or programs you ranked higher than your offer. You can see your child’s waitlist status in your MySchools account. Please understand that waitlist positions are fluid and may change if new families apply after the deadline with higher priority for enrollment.

Families who miss the main round application deadline can still make an application and add their child to the wait lists of schools or programs.

Below are the application open, close, and offer release dates. These dates are for students who are applying during the 2024-2025 school year for admission in the 2025-2026 school year.
